Jesus' final night began by sharing a meal with His disciples. At the beginning of the meal Jesus showed an example of servant-hood. He washed His disciples feet, a menial task, a lesson in humility that set forth the principle of selfless service. Only this act, so great, was He at last able to convey to His disciples to serve one another.
